Research Engineer 🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United StatesNew📁Research📅3 days ago Post Date📅89073 Requisition #Stanford’s Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR) and the Center for Health Policy (CHP) invites applicants for a full-time Research Scientist position, to simulation modeling to inform policy relating to infectious diseases.
PCOR/CHP produces interdisciplinary, world-class research on domestic and international health that advances our understanding of how health care can be delivered, and shapes the formulation of health care policy around the world. This critical work takes place across campus with multiple schools, organizations and individuals. PCOR/CHP seeks a Research Scientist to join the Prevention Policy Modeling Lab, which is a multi-institution research initiative led from Stanford by Professor Joshua Salomon. The Prevention Policy Modeling Lab conducts modeling analyses on the health impact, costs and cost-effectiveness of infectious disease prevention and treatment programs to inform health policy and guide public health decision-making at local, state, national and international levels. The Research Scientist will be responsible for leading innovative, collaborative scientific research to develop and apply simulation models relating to HIV, other sexually transmitted infections, and viral hepatitis. The successful applicant will take a lead role in development and application of models and contribute to a broader portfolio of projects through regular participation in working groups. Candidates must have a PhD in epidemiology, statistics, applied mathematics or a related field, a strong background in computational techniques and programming, and at least one year of postdoctoral research experience.*- The job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training in medicine, biology or public health, with infectious disease specialization preferred.
- Experience developing and writing grant proposals.
- Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related field.
- At least one year of postdoctoral research experience.
- Strong background in mathematical/statistical or computational techniques.
- Strong programming skills in C++, R, Python or other languages.
- Experience in developing simulation models required, experience in infectious disease modeling desirable.
- Ability to work independently and under deadlines is essential.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately and thoroughly.
- Strong English written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a research team that includes investigators based inside and outside Stanford.
