Senior Herd Caretaker

Regular Full-time, Market Range 03
Location:    Highland Rim AgResearch and Education Center in Springfield, TN

       
This position is responsible for the care and welfare of livestock, provides support for agronomic operations and assists with research, outreach and educational activities at the Center.

Responsibilities include:
    •    Responsible for the care and welfare of livestock
    •    Duties include feeding, watering, taking measurements, and recording research data
    •    Performs basic servicing and maintenance of equipment
    •    Observes livestock welfare and reports possible problems, illness or uncharacteristic behavior
    •    Performs farm labor in support of research and agricultural operations
    •    Assists research personnel to implement and conduct experiments
    •    Maintenance and upkeep of facilities, grounds, and buildings associated with Center
    •    Assists with special events at the Center such as field days and tours
    •    Performs other duties as assigned



Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required Are:

    •    High School diploma or GED 
    •    2 years’ experience in livestock handling and care (preferably in beef cattle)
    •    Basic knowledge of livestock and agricultural operations.
    •    Ability to work directly with livestock and associated production practices
    •    Experience with safe and efficient operation and maintenance of farm equipment
    •    Valid driver’s license
    •    Ability to perform agricultural/manual labor in inclement climatic conditions
    •    Ability to work well with others on a daily basis
    •    Ability to work independently or as part of a team as needed
    •    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs,
    •    Ability to perform artificial insemination in cattle is preferred
