Description of primary duties and responsibilities::Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The primary purpose of Police & Campus Safety is to protect the life and property of the students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Fayetteville State University and to support the University’s core mission of academic excellence by providing comprehensive and professional public safety services, as well as convenient access to a peaceful and orderly campus community.
Description of Work Continued::Primary Purpose of the Position:
This is a law enforcement position at the University that serves as the Supervisor on an assigned shift with full powers of arrest and responsible for enforcing the laws of the Local, State, and Federal Government. Employees have law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. The employee will evaluate officer responses’ appropriateness, designate assignments, necessary direct resources, and interpret laws, University, and department policies and procedures. Duties include providing leadership/supervision to officers on the shift, training officers, inspections of officers, reviewing reports and investigations completed during their assigned shift, conducting performance reviews, and providing input concerning operational planning. Other duties may include apprehending observed violators committing offenses, investigating violations or complaints to assess and handle cases, collecting and preserving evidence, following the chain of custody for evidence, testifying in court proceedings, and performing related work—other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::High school diploma or equivalency and three years of law enforcement experience. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
