Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of the McNulty Leadership Program at Wharton, the Director of Learning & Development is responsible for a portfolio of programs advancing leadership development for numerous Wharton student audiences.

Job Description

Complementing programmatic verticals of Civic Engagement and Ventures, the spectrum of L&D offerings provide evidence-based experiential learning opportunities framed for the business context. Building upon student self awareness made possible by the joint venture between McNulty Leadership Program and Wharton People Analytics that enables the Character Index and Leadership 360 assessments, students can move through a continuum of Learning and Development programs including:

  • Learning Team Formation grounded in high performance teams research;
  • MGMT610: Foundations of Teamwork and Leadership;
  • Leadership Workshops addressing specific skills and competencies;
  • P3: Purpose, Passion, Principles to identify personal patterns of behavior and belief while forging deep connections;
  • Peer and Team Coaching to sustain focus on shared or independent skill-related goals in a supportive group context;
  • Executive Coaching and Feedback Program to drive progress against personalized developmental goals through working 1:1 with a certified executive coach;
  • William P. Lauder Leadership Fellows as a selective learning community of second-year MBAs trained to mentor, coach and support incoming MBA students Learning Teams through formation, MGMT610 and throughout the first-year experience;
  • P3 Facilitation as practice for leading a peer group through exploration of diverse perspectives in pursuit of an improved understanding both of personal and professional success as well as approaches to navigating challenges;
  • Wharton Commitment Project as an opportunity to define and declare the values and commitments which impending graduates intend to prioritize for their lives after Wharton.

The L&D team delivers a combination of the above programs to full—time and executive MBA students, Wharton undergraduates and Executive Education participants according to audience needs and in adaptation to dynamic learning environments. The Director is ultimately responsible for leading the team that designs and delivers this portfolio in addition to a focus on needs assessment, strategy, design, execution and quality assurance for the MBA-facing programs, in particular the Leadership Fellows. In order to retain a reputation for innovation in co-curricular learning, the L&D team also provides project management and operational support to Wharton faculty initiatives such as the Organizational Behavior Conference, Inclusion in the Workplace Convening and Workplace Diversity and Inclusion partnership with Deloitte. These partnerships serve as a conduit for best practices and fresh thinking related to leadership learning and development, providing critical content for new program development and extension or expansion of existing programs.


A Master's Degree and 5 - 7years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of successful leadership development programming also required. Leadership skills and advanced project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders (such as senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students). Ability to work autonomously and in a team based environment. Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
