Research Assistant, Department of Pharmacology Georgetown University Medical Center

Research Assistant, Department of Pharmacology - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University Medical Center's PharmedOUT is a project that advances evidence-based prescribing and educates health care professionals and students about pharmaceutical and medical device marketing practices. PharmedOUT provides educational slideshows, videos, events, and information about CME courses free of industry sponsorship.

The Research Assistant supports PharmedOut's donor-funded international opioid education project, for which the staff compiles a compendium of information on opioids to assist researchers and public health advocates around the world in preventing similar epidemics in their countries, including: general principles of responsible opioid prescribing, marketing tactics of opioids, and a timeline of the opioid epidemic in the United States. Reporting to the PharmedOUT's Director, and to its Project Manager ad hoc, the Research Assistant has duties that include but are not limited to:

Research
  • Conduct specialized research on the international opioid epidemic with direction from the director
  • Assist with compiling a broad body of literature, news sources, and documentation of the opioid epidemic


Written Communication
  • Conduct writing projects, including grant proposal and reports, articles, studies, and press releases.
  • Designing brochures, posters, flyers, promotional materials, and other materials as needed.
  • Assist with manuscript preparation, including fixing references, editing manuscript, and inputting reviewer comments.
  • Perform background research as directed by the project director.


Administration
  • Assist with internal systems, processes, communications, administrative work, and website management
  • Assist in event planning
  • Assist in archiving projects


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous managerial or administrative experience
  • Editing, writing, and research skills using electronic bibliographic databases
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational, communications, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • An interest in public health and/or improving healthcare practices
  • Ability to stay focused on tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to interact positively with diverse personalities
  • High degree of flexibility and problem-solving skills


Preferred qualifications
  • Fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of Dreamweaver, HTML, and/or graphics software
