Job Description Summary
The Head of Resource Sharing Services oversees all operations, workflows, and business processes of the Penn Libraries' interlibrary loan and document delivery services, and manages scanning and mailroom operations in support of these services.
The Head of Resource Sharing Services oversees all operations, workflows, and business processes of the Penn Libraries' interlibrary loan and document delivery services, and manages scanning and mailroom operations in support of these services. Reporting to the Director of Access Services and working in collaboration with the Head of Circulation Services, Head of Collection Management, Coordinator of Access Services and Resource Sharing Systems, and the Director of LIBRA, the Head of Resource Sharing Services also manages the daily operations of the BorrowDirect, EZBorrow, and RapidILL implementations at Penn. The Head of Resource Sharing Services directly supervises 15 bargaining unit staff and approximately 10 student assistants in ILL, document delivery, scanning, and mailroom services.
- Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution
- Ability to effectively coordinate ILL and document delivery services and to develop workflow for the provision of fast, cost-effective, and seamless services
- Ability to provide leadership in staffing issues and daily operations
- Knowledge of trends and technology at the professional level in the ILL and document delivery fields, including request-management databases, software upgrades, copyright issues, consortia, and resource-sharing developments; ability to advocate for new technologies that support institutional priorities
- Knowledge of consortial agreements sufficient for evaluating them and recommending participation for the enhancement of patron services
- Statistical training sufficient to analyze statistical trends within ILL, document delivery, and shipping to improve overall patron services
- Ability to understand, appreciate, and articulate the Penn Libraries' mission and strategy
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written
- Experience supporting senior leaders to advance strategic goals
- Ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize a successful approach to achieving results
- Demonstrated success working with significant autonomy, and collaboratively, as part of a goal-oriented team
- Ability and willingness to adapt quickly to address evolving needs
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Expertise with ILLiad and OCLC WorldShare ILL
- Competence with Alma, RapidILL, Relais, and Project ReShare
- Familiarity with Aeon, Ares, and CaiaSoft
