Primary Purpose of Department:

We provide highly reliable information technology infrastructure, tools, and services to empower the University to achieve its academic, research, administrative, and service goals.

Primary Purpose of Position:

Designs and maintains enterprise level reports and dashboards using standard reporting platforms and systems. Possesses a thorough understanding of how to use and build metadata. Ensures data and systems security, integrity, and compliance.

Uses a combination of skills and experience in the areas of technical knowledge, technical solutions development, project management, consultancy, planning and organization, and systems technical support or administration.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

Duties support the OneIT Data & Analytics service goals including: 1) Data Security, Stewardship & Decision Support; 2) Enterprise report development and enhancements 3) Creation of documentation for reporting systems and departmental business processes.

Receives work requests from various sources including manager, senior level colleagues, as well as from customers via reporting group ticket system. Able and willing to communicate our request process to customers in a highly professional manner. Accepts responsibility for outcomes and is an excellent team player.

Responsible for management reporting which includes a thorough understanding of data collection or extraction, data validation, configuration of reporting applications, report creation and enhancement, data analysis, visualizations, presentations, and recommendations for decision-makers.

Demonstrates responsible data management for systems supporting the university and may serve as the system administrator/trainer for key tools and software (e.g. WebFocus, Tableau, ODS data structures, and any additional data sources within the Data & Analytics domain).

Responsible for assignment of security roles and performing periodic audits for all new and existing users.

Responsible for the creation or revision of process, workflow, and report creation documentation. Responsible to maintain Business Intelligence requests using OneIT administrative toolsets including Cherwell and JIRA. Responsible to provide regular updates for open tickets and projects, as assigned.

Applies project management and consultancy best practices. Uses a combined set of technical knowledge, business-thinking, communication, and behavioral skills to: 1) organize and partner with diverse teams (horizontal and vertical roles organization-wide); 2) define needs aimed to resolve moderate-to-complex issues; 3) prioritize and plan projects to improve data activation, process workflows, or systems adoption/use; 4) write technical requirements that ensure database and systems relational design; and, 5) develop and deploy systems and tools that enhance the user experience.

Models best practices in standard IT practices and procedures. Creates standard operating procedures for OneIT Data & Analytics FAQ or web pages.

Creates and maintains user guides and learning tools.

Trains users regarding new procedures, systems, and tools using a variety of teaching and learning modalities. Plans for and facilitates the “Super Reporters” divisional cohort quarterly meetings or trainings.

Accepts additional responsibilities based on departmental needs.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Two to three years of full-time experience in relational data base report design and analysis or technical/systems solutions development or related areas.

Ability to develop and document solutions for moderate to complex report requests.

Possesses experience and highly developed skills to create interactive data visualizations (e.g. WebFocus, Tableau or other moderately complex report writing software) or, if experience is in using another standard report writing applications, has the ability to learn/apply such skills/tools within first three months of start date.

Solid knowledge of and desire to maintain good IT standards that support the software development life cycle

Strong communication skills demonstrated in verbal, written, and presentations.

Graduate certificate or master’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent work experience.

Training experience a plus
