Job Summary:

The Math Center, located in room W201, provides drop-in tutoring assistance for students in math classes and other classes with math applications. Tutoring in the Math Center is a free service funded by Sheridan College, and there is no need to schedule an appointment. The schedule of available faculty and peer tutors is posted at the start of each semester. The Math Center is also an open computer lab where students can come to work on their homework assignments both individually and in a group setting. The Math Center is generally open for student use Monday through Thursday from 8am to 9pm and Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Education/Qualifications:

•Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college
•Sheridan College Student currently enrolled
•Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or greater

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

•Maintain at least a B in current math class
•Proficient in mathematics concepts- algebra, problem solving, calculus and/or statistics
•Instructor recommendation is preferred
•Familiarity with My Math Lab and graphing calculator is preferred
•Ability to communicate effectively with students both orally and in writing

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

•Depending on the hours working in the math center, you may be sitting for 1-3 hours at a time.
•No heavy lifting is required.
•Typical instruction environment

Responsibility/Duty:

•Arrive on time for scheduled tutoring commitments
•Answer questions students have regarding math concepts in homework assignments, notes, and MyMathLab
•Communicate with students in a polite respectful way
•Discuss issues or concerns with Jennifer Nichols (Math Center Coordinator)
