Universities of Canada in Egypt (UofCanada) is a new premier institution of higher education situated in the heart of the new Egyptian administrative capital outside Cairo. UofCanada was created via recent Presidential and Parliamentary decrees and is the 1st international branch campus hosting Canadian Universities in Egypt, including Ryerson University.

Ryerson University Cairo Campus is preparing for the official launch of the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) programs, namely Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, in September 2021. UofCanada invites talented academics to submit their applications for two Electrical Engineering positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher to teach at FEAS-Cairo Campus: one Electrical Engineer with a background in Signal Processing & Communications and the other with a background in Electronics & Electromagnetics.

The roles for these positions are expected to excel in accomplishing the following responsibilities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • To transfer knowledge to students and teaching assistants, including practical skills, methods, and techniques.
  • To ensure that the teaching content and delivery methods are following program guidelines and respond to issues relating to staff and student needs.
  • To encourage the development of innovative approaches to course delivery and ensure that teaching design and delivery comply with the department’s quality and educational standards and regulations.
  • To challenge thinking, foster debate, and develop students’ ability to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking.
  • To supervise student projects and research, as well as mentor their academic progress.
  • To set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.

Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities

  • To lead and coordinate research activity in the subject, including determining relevant research objectives, leading research and collaborative partnerships with other educational institutions or other bodies, and preparing and submitting proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g., funding and accreditation purposes.
  • To carry out independent research and write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using other appropriate media.
  • To seek practical applications of research findings in line with the vision of the university.

Services

  • To chair and contribute to committees’ work and participate in school/department decision-making and governance.
  • To promote and market the work of the university and department both nationally and internationally.
  • To be responsible for dealing with referred issues for students within their educational programs.
  • To mentor, appraise, and advise staff on personal and career development plans.
  • To foster innovation and inter-disciplinary team working.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (preference will be given to applicants with degrees from Canadian Universities or an internationally recognized University) and must provide evidence of the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level in the field of specialty.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate first-year core courses such as (i) Calculus, (ii) Linear Algebra, (iii) Physics (Waves and Fields), and (iv) Electric Circuit Analysis.
  • Registration or eligibility to register as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or any Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) as it pertains to teaching. This includes creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for a diverse student population.
  • Capacity for collaboration and collegial service and a demonstrated commitment to services to the University, Profession, and Community.

In addition to the following skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Skill and proficiency with current technology tools necessary for modern electrical engineering pedagogy, communication, and collaboration.
  • Compassionate, positive, and professional attitude.
  • High level of integrity, responsibility, and commitment.
  • Ability to take and implement initiatives contributing to the development of the program and the university.
