Posting DetailsPosting Number: 0601260 Position Category: Academic Services Professional Job Title: Coordinator of Second-Year Experience Position Code: 00400X Position Type: Staff Department: Enrollment Management Nature of Work: This position is responsible for developing programming for second-year students that improves student persistence and promotes student success at Albany State University, including sophomore learning communities, community engagement activities, career development workshops, student leadership, and financial literacy. This position is also responsible for advising students in transition between majors, particularly students who are no longer eligible for their current major. Work is performed under the supervision of the Executive Director for Student Success. Training and Experience: - must have a working knowledge of general university regulations
- must have a working knowledge of the requirements and expectations of all undergraduate degree programs at the university
- must have a working knowledge of the academic status policy of the university, and all procedures related to its proper execution, such as withdrawals, transient, grade appeals and changes, and attendance
- must have a working knowledge of student information, advising, and degree tracking system
- must have mastery knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
- must have the ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and in small and large groups
- must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing
- must have the ability to work with diverse perspectives
- must have the ability to work within university guidelines to plan small and large events
- must have the ability to balance multiple priorities
- must have the ability to collect and report on data

A Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience working directly with college students. A Master's degree in education, counseling, or psychology is preferred and can substitute for the required experience. Testing Requirements: None Illustrative Examples of Work: - coordinates second-year welcome and orientation activities
- recruits, trains, and mentors rising second-year students for peer leadership opportunities
- serves as advisor and program developer for Sigma Alpha Pi (National Society for Leadership)
- coordinates annual service-learning opportunities for second-year students
- facilitates a second-year seminar focused on career development, leadership and critical thinking
- develops a transition-to-upper division initiative that includes faculty interaction and celebration of two years of scholarly achievements
- collaborates with campus partners to prepare second-year students for post-graduation experiences
- facilitate a communication plan to second-year students and their families
