POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Success is a 12-month position responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of a robust academic readiness program offered for academically at-risk and underprepared undergraduate and graduate students at all USM campus locations. The Director also serves as the Disability Coordinator. This position contributes to the achievement of USM student retention goals. Position supervises a full-time Student Success Specialist and graduate assistants.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Academic Success

  • Develops academic success program for academically at-risk and underprepared students
  • Responsible for the implementation of initiatives and interventions for students admitted to USM conditionally or those students placed on probation to create individualized success plans; Monitors students’ plan progress and facilitates interventions for academic success
  • Lead efforts to monitor grade and attendance reports and determine appropriate intervention activities for students considered at risk throughout academic semesters (high missed attendance and/or low academic performance issues)
  • Maintain responsibility for evaluation of departmental services and initiatives including gathering data, maintaining records, preparing and presenting evaluation reports, and disseminating information.
  • Develops reliable reporting metrics for use in analyzing academic readiness, persistence, and retention strategies success across multiple student groups.
  • Leads the Student Success Liaison Team and coordinates student interventions throughout the semester
  • Develops and presents a series of workshops and campus-wide seminars on study skills and strategies, learning theory, reading strategies, time management, registration, course planning, etc. as needed.
  • Utilizes research on learning and cognition, sleep, time management, and study strategies to assist students to maximize their academic performance.

 

ADA

  • Coordinates the support services for students with disabilities; develops programs and initiatives to raise campus awareness of  disability and accessibility issues
  • Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the ADAAA
  • Drafts policies and procedures for providing appropriate accommodations; determine eligibility for services based on documentation of a disability; consult with students about appropriate accommodations based on documentation 
  • Coordinates test administration for students with accommodations
  • Confers with and advises staff, students, and others in complicated or difficult situations, providing technical advice, problem-solving assistance, program goals clarification, and procedural guidance.
  • Actively reaches out to staff and administrators of University offices to encourage program activities and processes that foster involvement of students with disabilities and minimize the need for individual accommodations.
  • Assist students in self-monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations
  • Support faculty in advising and teaching students with disabilities
  • Serve as an advocate for students with faculty, administrators, and/or staff
  • Stays abreast of national, state, and local disability and accessibility related issues

 

Additional Functions

  • Develops areas’ budgets; provide staff with information regarding budgetary decisions, planning, and implementation
  • Creates and develops program and service assessment 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in English, Math, Education, Adult Higher Education or a  related field
  • Experience in teaching, training and supervising
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues and other stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; strong organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully with multiple demands, shifting priorities and a changing landscape. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students required
