We are seeking a research technician to provide technical support for an immuno-virology focused research lab. The applicant must have a good understanding of fundamental molecular, biochemical, and cell biology (preferably with a focus on virology and/or immunology) concepts. The successful applicant will be familiar with and capable of performing a wide range of lab procedures/duties, but not limited to: basic molecular biology techniques such as isolation and purification of DNA/RNA, real time PCR, gel electrophoresis, immunoblots, cell culture, viral infections, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and microscopy, mouse handling, and other standard laboratory practices such as making solutions. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply even if they may not have experience in all of these techniques. This technical work will be done under the direction of the Principal Investigator or other senior lab member(s). Work may include experiments with mouse models of disease. The lab technician is also expected to take on some limited administrative, lab organization and lab maintenance responsibilities, including but not limited to: ordering supplies/reagents, maintaining databases, and general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory space.Education and Experience:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Physical ability, with or without accommodation, to perform repetitive tasks such as pipetting which may require standing at the bench for extended periods and to work with potentially infectious organisms (e.g., bacteria and viruses) or murine or human fluids (e.g., blood, stools, mucus).
Bachelor’s degree with a preference for a degree in biology/microbiology/molecular biology/genetics or biochemistry/chemistry. Previous lab experience is preferred. Previous experience with molecular cloning, virus handling, or cell culture would be advantageous. Must be able to work as part of a team of multidisciplinary individuals. Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
