Position Summary:

The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a senior investigator position to work across multiple projects related primarily to cancer screening implementation and quality improvement. The individual hired for this position will join a dynamic team of health services researchers, across UNC and elsewhere, conducting work in implementation and quality improvement in the areas of cancer screening and other disease prevention areas. The person hired into this position will serve as project director for a large, federally funded, multi-year project. He/she will actively contribute to all areas of research and quality improvement, including helping with development of study design, data collection instruments, protocols, and analytic methods. He/she will also contribute to data collection, database management, project management activities, administrative activities, grant support, manuscript writing, and presentation development. He/she may serve as a co-investigator on upcoming grant proposals. He/she must have excellent interpersonal/management skills as the position will require substantial communication and coordination with a variety of individuals, including study subjects, investigators across multiple departments, centers, and schools, and other community stakeholders. The position requires substantial capacity to independently manage and coordinate program activities. This person should possess skills in literature review, synthesis, and professional/scientific writing. He/she will be expected to contribute to study proposals, reports, compliance issues, and manuscripts for publication, and works with other members of the research team to develop and integrate their work into final products. Familiarity with research related to cancer screening would be a strength. Training in implementation science is preferred.

Educational Requirements:

Completion of a PhD in public health, social sciences, or a related field plus a minimum of two years prior research experience, including experience coordinating a study and a research team and developing and coordinating large grant proposals.

Qualifications and Experience:

This position requires a substantial capacity to work both independently and in a team across multiple related projects. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and writing skills are required. Also important is the ability to think critically and creatively, to help plan the work of others, and to work collaboratively with others. Experience in cancer screening research, clinical preventive services and/or patient safety, and a facility with a range of software is desirable. Commitment to and skills in working with diverse populations is desirable including proficiency in Spanish.
