Temporary Research Assistant
TemporaryEssential Job Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to, utilizing knowledge of plant disease/pathogens, as well as harvest protocols and techniques, this position will assist with implementation of field trials and managing protocols for breeding cucumber and watermelon including crossing and seed germination based on new research literature. Assist with planning experiments in field and greenhouse; help with data collection and analysis. This includes initial planting, fertilization, pollination and harvesting. Practice quality control measures and perform ongoing evaluation of measures to ensure integrity and validity of data.
Stays abreast of ongoing and published research in order to assist with experiments and trials; prepare stakes and seed packets; plant and harvest; manage seed increase blocks; supervise project assistants and field crew. May attend state, regional and national professional conference and meetings. Advises all program personnel in proper procedure and protocol.Directs field trials and manages protocols for breeding stevia, cucumber, and watermelon including crossing and seed germination based on new research literature. This includes initial planting, fertilization, pollination and harvesting. Practices quality control measures and performs ongoing evaluation of measures to ensure integrity and validity of data. Position will maintain any research in greenhouses. Expected to control diseases and insects. Manages and implements quality control. Maintains project integrity and verifies data.
Assist with planning experiments in field and greenhouse; help with data collection and analysis. Identifies potential problems and pathogens observed in cucumber and watermelon breeding. Records control measures in the field and greenhouse. Collects and analyzes harvest data. Identifies problems and suggests ways to correct them. Directs control measures in the field and greenhouse.
Maintain seed storage facilities at appropriate levels. Manages storage of plant pathogens and increases pathogens as needed for research purposes.
Manages staff and students so that SFRP research requirements are implemented correctly. Presents research results to stakeholders. Writes patents for cultivar releases. Contributes to writing publications and reports for SRRP. Collaborates in conception and design of SFRP research, and in writing grants and proposals.Is Time Limited:
