This position is only open to current SDSU employeesPosition SummaryIn collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS), Director, and AVP of the Student Financial Management Center (SFMC), the Assistant Director, Student Services establishes best practices and training programs to deliver exceptional student service through the SFMC. They oversee overall operations as they pertain to the effective delivery of quality student services; leads in the discovery of identifying other campus partners who could contribute resources to the SFMC to better equip students and families to make sound, informed decisions on the implications of loan debt, payment plans, and financing their college education; and oversee internal and external communication approaches, mechanisms, and literature used to inform students and families about financial aid/student accounting policies and proceduresThe Assistant Director, Student Services, is responsible for overall office operations, including monitoring all office workflow and, in consultation with the Management Team, setting priorities and modifying policies and procedures as necessary. They oversee the day-to-day activities, including assessing the effectiveness of newly implemented processes and recommending needed enhancements. In consultation with the Director and/or Associate Director, they ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements in all financial aid and scholarship programs working in conjunction with each coordinator of aid programs. Thoroughly understand and monitor the operation of all aid programs as a control to ensure compliance and audit integrity.The Assistant Director, Student Services work together with the Associate Director of Compliance and Audits and Director to provide leadership to ensure university compliance with all applicable laws and rules related to federal, state, private, and institutional aid; develops internal Quality Controls to ensure staff work is reviewed for accuracy; and makes recommendations to provide additional staff training or develop additional internal controls.The Assistant Director serves as one of the primary financial aid administrators in the absence of the Director and the campus liaison to ensure the availability and accuracy of critical financial aid information and associated requirements. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.Candidate QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have a complete understanding of financial aid laws, rules, and regulations as well as experience analyzing and defining complex organizational policies and procedures. They will have excellent managerial and administrative skills that include productive communication with staff, good listening skills, effective evaluation strategies, ability to motivate, resolve problems, evaluate accuracy and correctness of activities, and strong written and oral persuasive abilities.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experienceThree years of progressively responsible experience processing financial aid and scholarshipsExperience administering financial aid and scholarships in a CSU settingCompensation and BenefitsSan Diego State University will offer a competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
