JOB SUMMARY:

Perform and assist others with performing research experiments. Propagate cultured human cells. Troubleshoot and participate in troubleshooting experiments of others. Keep track and order lab supplies. Practice and insist on other lab members practicing safe work habits and complying with health and safety rules. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

60% - Essential - Experimentation: Plan, prepare and perform research experiments. Assist with experiments performed by students and the PI. Keep track of and document performed experiments and their results in well-organized lab book.

20% - Essential - Troubleshooting: Participate in troubleshooting experiments performed by undergraduate and graduate students.

10% - Essential - Maintain supplies: Keep track of common lab supplies and reagents. Order them in advance when getting low.10

10% - Essential - Safety: Practice safe work habits, including complying with all health and safety rules and regulations. Perform lab orientation for incoming/rotating students to ensure their compliance with all safety rules and regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree (Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field)
Work Exp in a research lab setting

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Work Exp 2+ years of experience in a research lab setting
Experience in constructing and propagating human cell lines
Knowledge and expertise in main molecular biology techniques

RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB KNOWLEDGE
Firm Job Knowledge - Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work Exp 2+ years of experience in a research lab setting
Experience in constructing and propagating human cell lines
Knowledge and expertise in main molecular biology techniques

WORKING CONDITIONS:

30% - Chemical hazards
10% - Electrical hazards
30% - Exposure to bio-hazards (i.e. blood, bodily fluids)
Other - Radiation Hazards (currently no radioactive isotopes are used or permitted to be used in the lab; however the use of radioactive isotope P32 is planned to begin in 6 months or so)

WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Expected Salary Range: ($ 27,527.00 - $ 38,000.00)
