Job Description:

As the General Trades Technician, you will be required to:

•Perform a variety of maintenance projects and preventative maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry. •Tasks may include the installation, repair, and maintenance of multiple building systems. •Assist other trades, perform safety checks, emergency response, maintain and order supplies and perform other duties as assigned.•The duties include daily inspections and maintenance of campus buildings; performs minor building repairs; responds to work orders to make minor repairs to electric, plumbing, and mechanical systems.•Work in diverse college settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products.

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

KSA’s:

•Ability to work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions independently.•Understand how to use a variety of hand tools and power tools properly and safely.•Able to work from ladders and scaffolds, to diagnose and repair a variety of building systems.•Ability to lift/move 75 lbs. on a regular basis.•Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment•Ability to read technical documents, drawings, and blueprints.•Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.•Detail oriented•Possess good communication skills; written and verbal.•Candidate must be able to work with other trades.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Graduate or equivalent• Previous experience in building trades ( electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)• Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Previous experience working in a commercial building setting
•Previous experience with a computerized maintenance management system
•Previous experience working with energy management systems..
