Job Details

Princeton University

The University Center for Human Values seeks qualified scholars to teach precepts for the fall 2021 course "Practical Ethics" at Princeton University. Applicants must have taken a course in ethics. Appointments are anticipated to begin on September 1, 2021, and will span the fall 2021 semester. Position duty time will be based on student enrollments and departmental need. Interested applicants must submit a CV, a letter detailing their knowledge of ethics and their teaching experience, and names and contact information for up to three professors who can testify to their teaching experience. Letters of recommendation will only be requested if candidates are shortlisted. Course description: Should we be sharing our wealth with people who will otherwise die from poverty-related causes? Is abortion wrong? Does a human embryo have a greater claim to protection than a chimpanzee? Are we justified in eating animals? Can the traditional doctrine of the sanctity of human life be defended? And why should we act ethically, anyway? Students will be encouraged to question their own ethical beliefs on these and other issues, and in the process to explore the extent to which reason and argument can play a role in everyday ethical decision-making. Review of applications to begin immediately and continue until positions are filled. These positions are subject to the University's background check policy. Degree Requirement: Advanced Degree required; Ph.D. preferred.
