Knox College invites applications for the full-time position of Network Technician, responsible for maintaining network infrastructure and supporting the diverse ecosystem of computers and equipment used by faculty, staff and students. This position reports to the Director of Systems and Network Operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with daily support and resolution of support tickets received by phone and email
  • Assist with support and troubleshooting of printers and copiers
  • Provide telephone and on-site support for hardware, software and network related inquiries to computer labs
  • Research and develop solutions for campus computing needs (i.e. network printing, surveys, application servers, virtual computing)
  • Provide recommendations for components / configurations and assemble customized computer systems
  • Analyze blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment
  • Assist in mounting wireless access points on walls and ceilings

Education and Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking fundamentals and equipment (Firewall, Routers, Switches, IP Networking/Addressing, Network Security)
  • Computer skills with multiple operating systems, networks and desktop applications
  • Experience with customer relations, project and task management
  • Experience managing and resolving computer/technical issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work from a ladder or lift
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds
  • Availability to work outside normal office to support College events and perform troubleshooting and maintenance activities that would be disruptive to College operations
  • Periodic travel to conferences and workshops


  • Associates degree and 2 years of experience or undergraduate degree in a technical discipline
  • Vendor Certification for Cisco and/or Aruba networking fundamentals and concepts
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ethernet wiring/cabling applications
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of standard networking services such as: DNS, DHCP, ARP, and spanning tree
  • Knowledge of VOIP applications and configuration of QOS in an enterprise environment
  • Ability to read construction drawings/blueprints
  • Knowledge of bandwidth shaping concepts and practices
