The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to join the faculty. The Assistant Professor is responsible for leading interdisciplinary translational research teams focused on brain tumor biology and therapeutic development. The candidate will direct nationally recognized research programs within the Preston A. Wells Brain Tumor Therapy Program in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida.
The applicant is expected to have experience in the following areas: 1) cancer stem cell and somatic stem cell assays such as quantitating stem cell frequency, in vitro isolation, propagation, and expansion, in situ manipulation, transplantation and methods targeting cancer stem cells in models of neoplasia; 2) brain tumor metabolism and immunometabolism with current/future focus on developing therapeutic approaches exploiting the metabolic interplay within the tumor microenvironment, especially between cancer stem cells and immune cells.
Research and scholarship responsibilities may include developing independent, federally funded research projects, and publication. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to research, education and service missions of the department and college.
Rank and Tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications.
M.D., Ph.D or M.D./Ph.D
The ideal candidate will lead preclinical efforts in therapeutic interventions in the context of brain tumors and will have a demonstrable track record in scholarly research. Expertise in brain tumor research in the areas of cancer stem cells, metabolism and immunotherapy and other approaches to novel treatment modalities. Significant experience with brain tumor models, generation and engineering of patient-derived primary cell lines, development of cell culture systems, and animal procedures is needed for the position. Candidates must have evidence of publications and academic scholarship.
