Full-time Instructor of Theatre, Non-Tenure-Track
COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON is accepting applications for full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track appointment in the Department of Theatre and Dance. This contract begins August 16, 2021, and is renewable on a yearly basis. The Department of Theatre and Dance is NAST accredited, offering BA and MAT degrees in Theatre and a BA in Dance.

We are seeking a candidate who will enthusiastically and artfully engage students in their early experiences learning about theatre. Regular classes taught will introduce theatre to students who are new to the department or completing General Education requirements. Online teaching will be an important component for this position. This candidate will also have the opportunity to teach courses in their areas of expertise (such as Stage Management, Sound Design, Performance or other topics) through the First Year Experience program and elective or Special Topics courses within the department.

Responsibilities include teaching a 4/4 course load consisting of online and in-person classes in Theatre Appreciation and Art and Craft of Theatre, and/or related areas; maintaining a record of professional development and development of pedagogy; serving as an academic advisor; assisting in recruitment activities; and serving on departmental committees. Additionally, opportunities for the candidate to contribute to departmental productions in creative capacities appropriate to the candidate’s areas of expertise will be available.

MA, MFA or PhD required by August 15, 2021;
Professional experience in theatre;
Prior undergraduate teaching experience strongly preferred.
