Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of considerable difficulty to design, install, maintain, support and backup the College computer and network systems

Work is distinguished by the ability to ensure the network systems, data and related resources are secure and continually accessible. Direction is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field and a minimum of four years of progressive experience in network administration; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft network and desktop operating systems.
  3. Considerable skill in Microsoft Active Directory system installation and administration.
  4. Considerable skill in database and network applications installation and support.
  5. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  6. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  7. Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  8. Working skills in verbal and written communication.
  9. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  10. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Essential Duties:

  1. Troubleshoot network service issues. Respond to end user needs and routinely review server logs looking for issues. Identify likely failure points or bottlenecks.
  2. Design IT solutions to meet business needs. Select and combine vendor products into a cohesive new network service.
  3. Determine standards for network server and desktop PC configuration regarding management efficiency, helpdesk issue prevention and data security.
  4. Develop and administer backup systems to recover data in the event of system failure, natural disaster, user error, etc. Make backups and replicate data across campuses.
  5. Install software upgrades and patches on network servers, as necessary.
  6. Maintain network security in accordance with established protocols.
  7. Provide information about network and technology usage to assist end users. Identify practical business process changes that might mesh more efficiently with technology.
  8. Install, administer, support and maintain multi-platforms network systems, email systems, multiple database systems, surveillance and door security systems, visual display systems, wireless network, and smart mobile devices.
  9. Create and maintain network servers’ documentations.
  10. Maintain servers’ OS updates and current patches.
  11. Provide support to Application Developers and IT Technicians, as needed.
  12. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
  13. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  14. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  15. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  16. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
