Heavy Equipment Supervisor - Fs Landscape Services & Facility Spt

Regular Full-time, Market Range MR10

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems.  The Landscape Services Heavy Equipment Supervisor is a working position providing supervision and guidance for the heavy equipment section of the division.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The employee in this position provides supervision and guidance for the heavy equipment section of the Facilities Services Department; will be working closely in the field with personnel on a daily basis; will have input during the hiring process of employees, including guidance and work direction to these team members.  The Heavy Equipment Supervisor is responsible for supplies and material acquisition for projects, recording labor and materials associated with work requests, and the ability to understand and assist with managing purchases within budget parameters. 



Qualifications
Minimum/Required Qualifications:

    •    Applicant must have a positive attitude, interact well with others in a team environment and follow university and departmental policies.
    •    Valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License Class B  (must acquire CDL Class A within 6 months of start date)
    •    10+ years of experience operating heavy equipment for excavation activities and rigging (underground utility distribution repairs/installation preferred such as water, sewer, gas, electric, steam)
    •    5+ years supervisory experience
    •    Ability to lead others by empowering a teamwork mentality
    •    Ability to assess crew members' strengths/weaknesses and coach team members toward improving performance
    •    Enforce University policies and procedures by coaching and apply disciplinary procedures as needed
    •    Ability to schedule and prioritize tasks in order complete assignments in a timely fashion 
    •    Ability to set own priorities and goals and determine how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow
    •    Follow through with assigned projects and keep supervisor informed of progress, potential controversial matters, or matters with far-reaching implications
    •    Ability to fill in for other supervisor personnel when absent
    •    Proficient word processing, spread sheet, and ability to learn new software
    •    Ability to review construction drawings and execute installation
    •    Ability to read and follow instructions
    •    Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, track excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, bobcats, tractors, cranes, dump trucks, etc.
    •    Knowledge of OSHA Trench Safety and be able to pass an OSHA trench safety and competent person certification
    •    Knowledge of proper storage and containment of fuels, oils, and chemicals
    •    Knowledge of equipment and tools required to complete related job tasks
    •    Knowledge of safety measures to use when approaching tasks and operating equipment
    •    Ability to perform hard physical work for long periods in all types of weather
    •    Knowledge of and experience with snow/ice removal procedures.
    •    Demonstrated stable job history in reliability, attendance, and punctuality
