Description
The part-time Therapeutic Counselor is responsible for providing therapeutic yoga sessions and mindfulness-based meditation groups to individuals and groups and may provide consultation on mental health issues to students, family members, faculty and staff. This is a position funded till December 2022 through a gift to the counseling center and may have the option for a new three-year contract. The part-time Therapeutic Counselor will be asked to complete Initial Assessments and assist with counselor-on-duty requirements.  As part of the initial assessment process, the counselor assesses the level of urgency present with students who register for services at the Counseling Center. Makes referrals for psychiatric evaluation and refers to other resources on and off campus.  Provides crisis intervention services.  If a student who is being seen for therapeutic yoga is in crisis the counselor may need to accompany that person to the hospital for emergency evaluation. Mainly, this position provides therapeutic yoga and meditation to individuals and groups of students who are already in treatment with other counselors. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in social work and licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania, or in clinical or counseling psychology and licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. At least two years of counseling experience, which may have been completed as part of a training experience, preferably in a college counseling center. Experience with trauma-informed/sensitive teaching methods. Yoga teacher liability insurance. Completion of a registered yoga teacher certification (200 hrs+).  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to cross cultural issues.
*Ability to provide mindfulness-based meditation groups.
*Ability to provide rapid assessment of student needs when needed.
*Ability to provide consultation to TCS staff, TCS trainees, administration, faculty, staff, students, and families regarding mental health issues and mindfulness-based meditation.
*Ability to provide supervision to trainees as needed.
*Ability to provide education in areas of expertise for the department’s didactic seminar for doctoral interns, and other forums.
*Ability to assist in the hiring of new staff and also the selection of trainees as needed.
*Ability to assist in the orientation of large groups of new and transfer students and their parents to Temple University and to counseling center services.

Preferred
*Previous experience working in a college counseling center setting.
*Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology and licensure in the state of Pennsylvania with at least two years of counseling experience post degree.
