Programmer Analyst - Institutional Research

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Institutional Research, the programmer analyst will conduct analyses, develop, test, and support the new EAB Navigator management platform by providing technical expertise and assistance to the Office of Institutional Research and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.

The Programmer Analyst will serve as a member of the Title III implementation team working towards the shared goal: "HCC will become a culturally-responsive institution (a Hispanic "Thriving" Institution) by delivering a holistic approach to student success and professional development."

  • Extracts data from the student success management system (e.g., EAB Navigate) to support the targeted grant initiatives.
  • Creates longitudinal datasets for tracking Title III goals and objectives.
  • Utilizes programming tools (such as SQL, SAS, Access, Crystal report) to produce information and track progress on equity-related grant initiatives.
  • Extracts data from all applications (such as Ellucian Banner SIS, Moodle LMS, and Ellucian CRM, Unifyed.) and ensure high levels of accuracy and precision in data reporting and data integrity.
  • Designs and maintains database schema and tables for Tableau; creates views that can process data quickly and efficiently; sets up automated extract refreshes from SQL to Tableau Server; creates code for partner programs to push data and results SQL server from SAS, Access, or similar analysis software.
  • Collaborates with other departments to design business intelligence solutions to facilitate data gathering, storage, and retrieval.
  • Works closely with the Title III team, IT, and Institutional Research staff to develop data collection systems that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Actively participates in meetings within the department and with end-users and workgroups.
  • Creates complex queries to blend and manipulate data from multiple sources.
  • Receives data and report requests, evaluates requirements, builds queries, builds reports, checks data, and deploys reports. Writes data report processes for developing queries and running reports.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, management information systems, data analytics, or related field; One to three years of experience working with Ellucian Banner or any other student information system (SIS); Experience successfully developing accurate reports, queries, and other data outputs within Business Information (BI), Analytics, or Query tools such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau, Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI; Experience in relational database application development, including knowledge of tables, packages, stored procedures, triggers, views.; Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions; Experience creating reports for end-users; Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff, and students; Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required; Enjoy working in a fast-paced and team-based environment.


    PREFERRED:
    Experience with EAB Navigate and other student success management systems; Experience working with Ellucian Banner; Knowledge of Java, SAS; Experience working in a community college or other higher education setting.

    Hours: 37.5 hrs.
