Primary Purpose of Department:Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte supports the academic, personal, and interpersonal development of UNC Charlotte students by providing short-term individual and group counseling, psychological assessment, consultation for faculty, staff, parents, and students, and educational programs to the campus community.
Primary Purpose of Position:This position supports the counseling, training, and educational mission of CAPS and includes direct service to students and consultation services to the University community.
Summary of Position Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, this position provides direct service to students in the form of individual and group therapy, clinical consultation, and crisis intervention; consultation with faculty, staff, students, parents, and others; outreach and crisis response to the campus community; research and evaluation; supervision of trainees; and service to the University.
Minimum Education/Experience:1. Completed Master of Social Work (MSW) degree (by date of hire)
2. Completion of all supervision hours to satisfy requirements for a full license as a Social Worker in North Carolina. (by date of hire)
3. Experience providing psychological services to young adults.
Preferred qualifications include expertise and interest in providing culturally competent services to marginalized and oppressed populations, with experience and expertise in at least one of the following areas:
•students who identify as: Latinx/Hispanic; Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander; and/or Arab, Middle Eastern, North African
•students who identify as trans or with other gender expansive identities
•men and masculinity
•international students
•students with autism spectrum disorder
Able to articulate an understanding of intersectionality of diverse identities such as religion, sexual orientation, and other factors.
Prior to start date, must fully meet all requirements for licensure as a Social Worker in the State of North Carolina.
