Job Description Summary
The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES) provides the expertise, business process, policies and standards required to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and renew the physical assets of the University, excluding the health system. In addition, the Division, comprised of approximately five Departments, is responsible for the strategic planning, management and operation of non-academic University property, and collaborating with the neighborhood to create a safe, diverse and economically vibrant destination. With close to 12M square feet of space, FRES maintains 186 buildings on a campus of 276 acres, completes over 60,000 maintenance requests per year, and starts approximately 250 projects a year. FRES is comprised of the following Departments: Administration, Office of the University Architect, Design and Construction, Real Estate, Operations and Maintenance.

The University of Pennsylvania is implementing a campus transformation entitled Penn Connects (http://www.pennconnects.upenn.edu). This comprehensive, award winning effort is expanding the campus over the next 20 years, including the construction of new academic research and recreational facilities. In addition, the University has secured $300M in Century Bond funding and continues to upgrade existing facilities over the coming years. https://www.facilities.upenn.edu/

Job Description

Locksmith

Services and maintains University lock systems, making keys, changing locks, and re-keying door locks. Candidates will be expected to work in a multi-skilled environment. High School Diploma or GED required and 3 years of experience.

Candidate must be able to perform the physical demands of the position including extensive walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting of at least 50 pounds. Must be able to accept shift work if required.

Required to possess valid driver's license, free of any suspension/revocation from the individual state of permanent residence.

Candidates are required to have experience and a willingness to conduct work in a multi-trades job environment, work on multiple types of building equipment and systems, and work other trades personnel as assigned

Candidates must have successfully completed an approved accredited Locksmith school or Documented Locksmith training from correspondent association or factory. Must/should hold an industry membership and or certification from a national locksmith association, with a minimum three years employed as a Locksmith in the profession.

The following Trade specific skills are required:
  • Strong knowledge of servicing and installing A2 & A4 SFIC Systems. Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the install and repair of grade -1 hardware with focus on mortise locks and exit devices.
  • Working with and maintaining very large multi keyway master keying systems with Hands on experience with concealed vertical and single point exit devices.
  • Knowledge of fire & life safety Codes for locking devices knowledge and practices with rules and regulations required by OSHA, and understand all the PPE required to perform work assignments.
  • Ability to interpret and work from drawings, sketches and O&M manuals.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation and repair of all categories of Locks.
  • Ability to prioritize and finish work tickets in a timely manner.
  • Ability to use lock shop machinery in a safe manner. Also to maintain all tools and equipment pertaining to the locksmith trade.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
