MGH Institute of Health Professions is a graduate school in Boston that provides entry-level and post-professional programs in Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Genetic Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. The Senior Data Analyst, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, will perform data and analytics projects to assist leadership to monitor progress of Institute initiatives and to support decision making. The Senior Data Analyst will focus on key metrics in areas including enrollment, resources planning and utilization, revenue and expense, web site and social media analytics and other related functional areas. The Senior Data Analyst will develop tools, reports, dashboards and other visual representation of data and information.

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for constructing analytic datasets by extracting data from the Institute’s various data systems and other sources as necessary, producing appropriate data summaries, and conducting valid data comparisons and statistical tests. The Senior Data Analyst will collaborate with the Director of Enterprise Software Applications & Systems in the developments of needed data sets and data access. The Senior Data Analyst will work directly with implementation teams to appropriately identify evaluation and comparison data sets to construct valid measures. There is a focus on evaluating project implementation within the current enrollment growth initiative, in addition to evaluation of program outcomes. The analyst will also work closely with staff in other departments to facilitate and support data access and analytics The Senior Data Analyst will be also be responsible for communicating evaluation findings to leadership and to the Institute community at large.


  • Construct necessary datasets from extracting data from the Institute’s various data systems and other data sources as necessary. (40%)
  • Develop and present analytical findings in a variety of formats (Excel, reports, PowerPoint, Tableau, graphs, figures, and tables, dashboards, visuals, reports), formulating recommendations, and effectively presenting results to broad range of audiences including stakeholders, end users, team members and others. (20%)
  • Works closely with all departments and units to develop strategy for long term data platform architecture. (15%)
  • Conducts and facilitates (and educates and trains on) analyses, issues identification, organizational risk assessment, and decision-making processes. (10%)
  • Provides consulting and analytic services to leadership. (5%)
  • Leverage the resources available through MGB Data and Analytics when possible, including resources and tools including Tableau. (5%)
  • Collaborate on the development, modification, and validation of new and existing data quality controls. (5%)


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, masters preferred.
  • 3-5 plus years of experience in professional data analytics, preferably in education.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to conduct effective research; highly analytical and able to independently analyze test results, examine and identify triggers and root cause.
  • Expertise in backend testing and writing SQL queries, including complex subqueries and joins.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to formulate hypotheses, test options and move forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytic and data management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels within the institution.
  • Ability to appropriately scope and execute evaluation and analysis work.
  • Knowledge of statistical testing and multivariate modeling required.  
  • Knowledge of data structures and relational database concept.
  • Preferred knowledge of higher education software applications such as Ellucian Colleague
  • Strong development skills with applications such as Tableau.
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL server, MS Access, and/or Oracle).
