The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks an early-career Kinesiology faculty member who will devote approximately half-time to serving as Assistant Director of the Lifetime Physical Activity program and approximately half-time to teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in Kinesiology. This is a 9-month, salaried, tenure ineligible, and non-renewable position.

For the Lifetime Physical Activity program, the incumbent will work with the program’s Director to:

  • Coordinate hiring of all course instructors each semester
  • Serve as direct supervisor of instructors over the course of the semester; facilitate training, provide regular feedback to instructors, and coordinate administrative duties of instructors
  • Work with the Director to plan semester courses, work with Intramural staff to coordinate use of class spaces and maintain safe environment.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

For the Kinesiology academic degree programs, the incumbent will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities (fall semester) and Practicum in Kinesiology (fall and spring semester)
  • Teach a graduate course in Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities (spring semester)
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.



  • PhD, EdD or equivalent in Kinesiology or closely related discipline (degree conferred by August 23, 2021).
  • Experience teaching college coursework in Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities.
  • Experience coordinating delivery of exercise and physical activity courses.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods in physical education for young adults.


  • Experience hiring, instructing and supervising physical activity instructors.
  • Experience coordinating use of class spaces and maintaining safe environment for large number of physical activity courses.
  • Professional job experience in Kinesiology-related setting.

Physical Demands: This job combines the sedentary activity of office work with the physical nature of exercise and physical education courses. It involves extensive use of desktop computers. The job may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
