Occ Summary

Manage and supervise functions of assigned patie nt care area on a 24hour basis; ensure effective delivery of clinical pa tient care andcompliance with administrative and clinical policies and p rocedures.


Work Performed

Participate in the develop ment of the clinical areas' strategic andoperational plansActively suppo rt and promote a professionalpractice model that encourages staff partic ipation in the developmentof clinical standards that is collaborative,c ollegial and utilizescurrent trends and data in professional practice (c linical andadministrative).Openly support and consistently communicatemi ssion of the unit/department and the organization. Serve as thecollectiv e voice for unit(s) staff to communicate with administration.Serve as th e staff and patient advocate to ensure optimal patient care.Interface wi th patients and families to ensure that care isconsistent with their exp ectations. Ensure active use of the nursingprocess for patients from pre -admission/admission to discharge andbeyond (based on the clinical setti ng).Serve as a professionalrole model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change whilesupporting colleagues through the change proce ss. Serve as a changeagent to facilitate communication and transition th at supports themission of the organization.Ensure a unit-based work forc ethat is diverse and cognizant of the value diversity brings to theworkp lace.Assure coordination/participation of unit basedstaff on department and organization wide councils/committees.Manage, supervise and coordina te delivery of patient care forassigned patient care area on a 24 hour b asis. Ensure compliance withclinical patient care standards and establis hed policies andprocedures.Maintain clinical competencies for assignedcl inical area and provides bedside care as needed. Assess/coach andevaluat e staff level of practice. Develop programs that fostercontinued clinica l development from novice to expert to positivelyimpact on patient care and career satisfaction of staff.Maintain required unit records, reports and statistics foradministrative purposes, ensures compliance with esta blished hospitalpolicies, procedures, objectives, quality control (POCT) ; PI, safety,environmental and infection control. Communicate requiremen ts to staff,and hold staff accountable to established requirements.Coord inate the development, implementation and evaluation ofpolicies and proc edures designed to improve operational efficiency.Coordinate QC/PI activ ities with appropriate staff.Overseevarious personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring,performance appraisals, disciplinary actions , terminations and otherrelated activities.Plan, schedule and organize w ork for groupensuring proper distribution and delegation of assignments andefficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities; overallacco untability for the requisition, care and maintenance of unitinventory, e quipment and supplies.Coordinate the activities ofnursing staff with oth er hospital personnel; accountable for theeffective and efficient operat ion of the unit and staff includingensuring that orders, treatments, pla ns of care, clinical pathways arebeing carried out in a manner supportiv e of patient care and recovery.Ensure documentation of patient care is c omplete and accurate inaccordance with hospital and unit policies and pr ocedures.Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Operations todetermin e fiscal requirements of assigned unit(s), and preparebudgetary recommen dations. Monitor the level of resources utilized inservice delivery and determines the appropriateness of resourceconsumption in the service. De velop action plans in conjunction withthe Director of Clinical Operation s to ensure budget and resourceefficiency, and satisfaction with patient care delivery.Perform other related duties incidental to the work descr ibedherein.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.


Experience

Three years of experience in inpatient nursing is required.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BCLS certification required. Nurses hired into leadership positions must obtain a nursing leadership certification within one year of hire. New nurse leaders who are ineligible to sit for an exam because they have not been working in a leadership role for the minimum amount of time required must complete their certification within three months of becoming eligible.
