Department: Immunology, Duke University Medical Center

The Ciofani lab studies the transcriptional regulatory networks that govern inflammatory immune cell development and function. We seek motivated and talented candidates for full-time postdoctoral positions to be held in the Department of Immunology, Duke University Medical Center. The Ciofani lab is exploring the genetic basis of CD4 T cell pathogenesis in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease. This funded project involves identifying and validating the gene targets of noncoding disease-associated risk variants (SNPs) using a combination of innovative high-throughput genomics and reporter assays, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated modifications of primary human T cells, and mouse models of autoimmunity.

Appointments will be made on a renewable one-year contract with the expectation of at least a three-year commitment. Positions are available immediately and will be filled as soon as possible.


Candidates with expertise in molecular biology, genomics assays, and mouse models are encouraged to apply; experience in human T cell biology or computational biology is also an asset. A PhD in Immunology or Molecular Genetics is preferred; the competitive candidate has a strong background in immune cell development or function, and mastery of molecular biology techniques.

The position requires a PhD in immunology, molecular genetics/biology, or a related field. A strong background in immune cell development or function, or molecular biology techniques is preferred. Experience with mouse handling, human cell culture, flow cytometry, high-throughput sequencing, and computational analysis will be highly desirable. Extremely motivated individuals with excellent communication skills within 1-3 years of receiving their PhD are encouraged to apply.
