Required Education:At least a second semester UK student in good standing (minimum 3.3 overall GPA); must demonstrate mastery of basic concepts of multimodal communication (speaking, writing, presentation design).
Required Related Experience:No specific work experience is required. Previous tutoring or mentoring experience is helpful but not necessary. See job summary for useful aptitudes and skills.

Physical Requirements:Sitting and standing for long periods of time, occasional lifting or pushing of items up to 25 lbs.
Shift:Applicants must be willing to work all locations (Presentation U in William T. Young Library, The Study South at Woodland Glen 3, and remotely) and have availability to work 6-20 hours during designated shifts Sunday-Friday, based on applicant availability and class schedule.
Job Summary:This position will begin in Fall 2021 (August).
Presentation U peer tutors provide one-on-one and small group tutoring on multimodal communication assignments (oral, written, visual, digital) for courses at any level (100, 200, 300, 400) and in any discipline. Peer tutors may also assist in providing presentations and trainings to class groups. Peer tutors must have completed UK Core Composition and Communication courses with an earned “B” or better (CIS 110, 111, or 112 or WRD 110/111).
Peer tutors work with students who come for tutoring appointments through listening, goal setting, problems solving, and peer coaching. Peer tutors are expected to guide and support students as they discover answers to questions. Peer tutors receive training in effective tutoring methods before leading tutoring sessions. Peer tutors should be able to navigate and learn academic and multimodal communication software and technology (i.e. Zoom, Canvas) effectively so that they can coach clients on how to do so.
Peer tutors must be proficient in all forms of multimodal composition and communication (speaking, writing, presentation design) and enjoy working with their peers. Because the peer tutor position is a professional position, it includes responsibilities beyond working regular shifts. As members of the Presentation U professional staff, peer tutors are required to work cooperatively with each other, attend professional development sessions, performance evaluations, and participate in promotional activities.

Research
In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts.
