Position Summary:

‘Culture and Community at the Penn Center’ is a research and teaching collaboration between the Penn Center and the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, and is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The grant requires the recruitment of a research coordinator to administer its various parts, including liaison between the Penn Center and the Willson Center. The position will be held at the Penn Center and report to the Penn Center director and staff on a daily basis. The Research Coordinator will report to the director of the UGA Willson Center for payroll, leave, and evaluations. Relocation expenses are not covered.

This is a limited-term position (2021-2025) with the possibility to continue if funding is available.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

This position will ideally combine experience in with arts and humanities administration, and in community networking and participation. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of people, good analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent judgment skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Administering the major parts of the grant project, including the research residencies, artist-residencies, Penn Center conversations. Coordinate and manage the visiting artists and students’ schedules, travel, lodging, planning, and details. Work with the Penn Center director and board of trustees on grant activities and with the Willson Center on budget items. Communicating with the Penn Center and the Willson Center to manage the grant’s digital presence and print communications. Update website and manage social media, often in coordination with partner communities and schools as well as resident student groups and artists.

Connecting the major parts of the grant project to communities and partner schools along the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. Work with the Penn Center director and board of trustees on building community connections to and collaborations with the visiting artists and students. Coordinating messages and announcements through networks of communities and partner schools for participation and publicity for grant project events. Interfacing with Penn Center Trustees and Editorial Advisory Board members to brainstorm programming and events ideas and communicating this information among Gullah Geechee communities and partner schools.
