Position Summary:The University of Georgia Complex Carbohydrate Research Center seeks a Research Technician to join a federally funded project involving characterization of microbial surface glycolipids and polysaccharides from microorganisms.
The suitable candidate should be an enthusiastic, motivated person who demonstrate interests in analytical chemistry and biochemistry of carbohydrates and lipids in bacteria, and in microbiology and biochemistry in general, and will be involved in isolation, purification and characterization of bacterial cell glycolipids (e.g., lipopolysaccharides, capsular polysaccharides) and extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) from microorganisms by using various separation and analytical techniques such as extraction, chromatography (SEC, HPLC), gas chromatography, mass spectrometry (e.g., GC-MS, MLADI TOF-MS), and electrophoresis. The candidate will learn how to interpret the data and will be responsible for keeping record of the work in a laboratory book, and for preparing electronic reports (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.). The candidate will also follow all safety protocols and waste management mandated by the UGA Environmental Safety Division. The position is available immediately, and salary is dependent on experience.
