About the College/Unit/Department:

University Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on-campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. University Housing operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Affairs. More than 8,000 students live on campus, where University Housing manages more than 2.8 million square feet of space in 22 residence halls, 20 apartment buildings, four Greek Park houses and 18 buildings on UGA’s nearby Health Sciences Campus. The department employs more than 700 staff members to conduct the operations of a comprehensive and integrated student housing organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Summary:

The primary function of this position is to perform a variety of cleaning and related duties in and around the residence hall. This person works in a community housing approximately 1,000 residents.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Work independently, effectively organize time in order to fulfill all work requirements. Create a clean and organized environment. Demonstrate reading, writing and math skills sufficient to accomplish all job requirements. Proficient English language needed to read and comprehend all product warning labels and all official UGA communications. Sufficient English verbal communication skills needed to effectively communicate with supervisor, staff and residents. Develop and maintain good relationships with personnel, residents and various customer groups. Use computers to access UGA employee websites, to read and respond to UGA email, as necessary.

Physical Demands:

Climbing stairs and ladders, may occasionally work from a ladder. Bending at the waist and knees. Working with arms and hands outreached and overhead. Standing, kneeling or squating for long periods of time. Performing work related duties indoors with steam and humidity, hot/cold in building during various seasons and outdoors in different weather conditions. Lifting and moving items at least 50 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted. Driving University vehicles when necessary to complete job tasks.

Clean, disinfect and sanitize sinks, tubs, showers, commodes and walls in bathroom area.
Clean glass, mirrors and windows maintaining cleanliness.
Vacuum carpets and walk-off mats keeping floors clean and free of debris.
Clean furniture, light fixtures, walls, water fountains, fans, air vents, doors, kitchen appliances, ceilings, laundry rooms and trash chute areas according to department standards.
Clean baseboards and stairwells, mop, sweep, strip, wax and buff hard floors.
Collect and remove trash and debris. Clean trash receptacles and change liners in offices and common areas. Move recycled materials to designated area.
Maintain operational supplies daily such as, refilling soap dispensers, toilet tissue, paper towels and hand sanitizer in restrooms, kitchens and public spaces.
Stock custodial closets and carts daily with supplies needed such as, proper chemicals, microfiber cloths, cleaning tools, can liners and items deemed necessary by supervisor.
Safely operate and use various types of floor equipment, tools and products.

Perform summer project work assignments such as, deep clean resident rooms, common areas, windows, blinds, restrooms, kitchens, extract carpets, strip and wax hard floors.
Receive and deliver mattresses. Pressure wash outside areas.

Report damage and maintenance work requests to immediate supervisor and/or work control office.
Report any equipment in need of repair to immediate supervisor.

Receive and deliver miscellaneous supplies and goods to and from various buildings.
Participate in team meetings; attend departmental training and events.
Perform other duties consistent with the purpose and scope of this position, which may be assigned
