The UC Irvine Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a Junior or Assistant Specialist to perform experiments to reset epigenetic controls and boost energy production as investigational approaches to improve memory in an Alzheimer mouse model. The position will be supervised by Professor Gregory Brewer (http://brewer.eng.uci.edu). The initial appointment will be full-time for 12 months. Renewal of the appointment will be contingent upon the quality of performance and availability of funding.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform fundamental lab bench neuroscience research using mouse hippocampal neurons in cell culture, administrate drugs to mice and monitor their effects on neuron immunostain and on cognitive behavior, collect blood from mice and process mouse and human blood specimens. You will analyze brain metabolites and proteins. You will plan and prepare experiments with electronic records, acquire fluorescence microscopic fluorescence images from neurons, write reports on methods and summarize results in Excel and Powerpoint, maintain research materials and supplies and perform other research activities as directed. You will be expected to train new members entering the lab and students on short-term assignments.
Requirements: This position requires a BS/BA or MS in neuroscience or biology or related field with experience in wet lab bench work, cellular fluorescence microscopy and cell culture expertise. Experience in behavior analysis of mice, neuron culture, Image J analysis, cognitive testing in mice and ability to work independently and with others are desirable.
Annual Salary: $44,500 - $53,300
