Job Opening ID: 17031Reports To: Assistant Dean, AdministrationWorking Title: Director of Research OperationsDepartment: SOM-Research Support ServicesBargaining Unit: 99FLSA: ExemptPayroll Job Code: 006083Job Location: UCI Campus- IrvinePercent of Time: 100%Work Schedule: 8-5, M-FEmployee Class: Career Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Dean for the School of Medicine, and with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice Deans for Clinical and Basic Science Research, the Director of Research Operations will have organizational oversight of the School of Medicine’s clinical and basic science research enterprise to help achieve distinction in all facets of research, including clinical trials. The Director is expected to exercise independent judgment and decision making in the management of the school’s research operations and will be expected to plan, design and implement the overall strategic direction of research within the School of Medicine. The Director of Research Operations will serve as a subject matter expert on all matters related to research contracts and grants administration. The Director will provide administrative leadership for the cGMP manager and clinical grant writer. Compensation Range: Commensurate with experience Department Website: http://www.som.uci.edu Required: Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in any of the following settings: hospital operations, clinical research, or disease management. Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role with responsibility to manage people and processesBachelor's degree in clinical healthcare field (BSN, RPh) or healthcare administration, business, science, or related field.Demonstrated expertise in building collaborations between academia, industry and/or governmental agencies. Leadership experience in academic and/or government agencies. Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Expert oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution and administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices. Strong negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/persuade all levels of staff. Academic or research background and recognized expertise in selected area. Managerial experience and proven success in managing a complex research or academic program(s). Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Strong fundraising experience. Preferred: Master's degree or higher preferred (MD, PhD, MBA, Pharm.D., MSN) Final candidate subject to background check.
