Your opportunity:

UTM Biology offers exciting undergraduate programs in all of the major biological areas with specialization in four main topics: Ecology & Field Biology, Whole Organisms; Genetics & Evolution; Cell, Molecular & Developmental Biology; Physiology & Behaviour.

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Biology, you will work closely with academic administrators, faculty members, course instructors, students as well as with the Biology Curriculum Committee. The incumbent's work will include the identification of program learning expectations/objectives for each undergraduate program offered by the Department of Biology, as well as identifying assessment methods in core/foundational courses, including efficacy in measuring student achievement against identified program learning outcomes. Working collaboratively with faculty members, course instructors and academic administrators, the incumbent is expected to develop and implement coherent and integrated instructional strategies that support learning objectives, incorporating current best practices in teaching.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating learning outcomes for biology undergraduate programs
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Developing and implementing components of instructional undergraduate biology programs
  • Advising instructors on strategies for developing and delivering undergraduate biology curriculum
  • Designing surveys, interviews and other research tools for program evaluation and presenting data analysis findings
  • Developing content for and leading instructional workshops
  • Developing and implementing instructional strategies to support learning objectives, incorporating current best practices in teaching
  • Serving as a resource on program level outcomes to the Biology Curriculum Committee


Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Biological Sciences or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of related experiencein the undergraduate education field
  • Experience with reviewing and assessing program level outcomes and learning objectives for undergraduate programs
  • Experience with designing and delivering undergraduate program components and courses
  • Experience with developing curriculum maps for undergraduate programs
  • Experience with developing and implementing instructional strategies to support learning objectives
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Advanced project management skills

USW Pay Band 14 -- $78,618 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,542. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
