Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the management, administrative direction, and coordination of activities and staff for all benefit-related programs related to student veterans and veteran dependents for the university. This position will actively engage federal, state, local and University resources in order to achieve all veteran-related University goals. This position will serve as part of the management team, as directed by the Center Director, in the strategic planning, staffing, and administrative decisions and directions for the Center.

Responsible for the development, implementation, certification, supervision, audit, and reporting related to the veterans benefits program that will assist veterans from recruitment, to military college transition assistance, to post-enrollment career/educational placement.

Responsible for producing required certifications and/or reports to veteran benefit agencies and organizations, and overseeing and supervising the University Veteran and Dependent Benefits Office, implementing veterans initiatives, programs, and policies. Maintains certifying official status with the VA. Plans, coordinates, and manages benefit programs, seminars, and events designed to educate students, faculty, and staff about veteran benefits and ways to better support the student veterans.

Manages the VA Work Study program at FSU and the VA Work Study students.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to an administrative service; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to eight years in the same. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

    Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials. Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Word and Excel or comparable software. Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices to strategically align tasks and people with organizational goals and objectives.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to supervise employees, maintain and improve personal and team effectiveness, and foster change and creativity.Experience prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detailed oriented environment.Experience providing subject matter expertise and counseling others.
Preferred
  • Master's Degree and five (5) years working experience in Advising and Certification of Veterans Benefits (university of 1000+ certifications each semester).
  • Experience as a school State Certifying Officer (SCO) for veterans benefits.
