Position Title:Lead Carpenter
Position Summary:This position is a part of the carpenter shop, responsible for providing all repair and maintenance service campus-wide. The lead carpenter performs under general supervision and requires the application of standard trade practices in providing carpentry maintenance and repair as well as incidental support for electrical and plumbing repairs.
In concert with and/or in the absence of the Carpenter Shop Supervisor this position is responsible for:
Coordinate interior and exterior maintenance, repair and operation services for campus-wide facilities.
Monitor work flow processes for routine, urgent and emergency maintenance and repair service requests.
Coordinate with Maintenance Contract Team for support.
Assist in the coordination of work with the various trades shops.
Must have extensive knowledge in the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade.
Experience and thorough knowledge of both rough and finish carpentry.
Ability to make necessary repairs to all wood structures, cabinetry, furniture, as well as construction of.
Proven ability to perform general carpentry work in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, scaffolding, concrete forms, wood fixtures and furniture.
Ability to interpret construction specifications and drawings to create material list and conduct research using vendor submittals.
Capability of operating and maintaining, as well as safety procedures involved in, the use of carpenter stationary tools (Miter saw, Routers, Table saw, etc.), handheld, portable, and power tools.
Ability to problem solve; determine the best means and methods of carpentry repair and restoration.
Ability to communicate professionally in oral and in writing with management, customers, skilled and unskilled tradesman, and faculty and staff while coordinating schedules and appointments to perform work repairs
Basic knowledge in the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the small electrical and plumbing repairs.
High School Graduate or equivalent significant carpenter trade experience, carpentry facilities maintenance, or a combination of the two.
Valid Driver’s License.
Communication and interpersonal skills, customer service oriented.
Organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to train skilled and unskilled laborers.
Experience in cabinets, countertops, and laminate work.

Conditions of Employment::This position is subject to overtime and schedule changes and may be required to work shifts during weekends, holidays, and special events. Incumbent will be required to participate in the Facilities Management “on-call” program. This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed, and is subject to overtime and possible snow removal.
