Job Summary:

Coaches prospective and First Time To College (FTIC) students through the enrollment process. Provides guidance with education planning and major selection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts pre-enrollment workshops and new student orientation
• Educates students on the steps necessary to complete the enrollment process
• Works closely with registrar’s and financial aid offices to assist students who are entering the college
• Advises students of appropriate placement and coursework
• Assists students with career information related to students’ interests and aptitudes (MyPlan, Career Coach)
• Assists students with major selection
• Educates students on the steps necessary to complete a certificate or degree program
• Teaches students the skills to self-navigate to degree completion utilizing campus information, student on-line system and campus resources
• Provides information regarding student life opportunities to include student activities and organizations on campus
• Assists College Access and Community Outreach with admission processes for new students
• Assists in retention activities of the college
• Conducts workshops (i.e., financial literacy, study skills, etc.) for FTIC students
• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
• Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and one (1) year of advising/retention experience in a college or university
• Experience with First Year or New Student programs
• Knowledge of career interest inventory testing procedures and outcomes
• Experience in advising students of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds
• Experience working with computerized systems
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work flexible hours that may include evenings and weekends

Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:

• Knowledge of academic and career/technical programs
• Experience in a community college environment

Special Instructions Summary:

This is an on-call position, maximum 19.5 hrs. per week. On-call work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs.
