Job Description:


York Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school in York, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Director of Music. The selected candidate will join the faculty for the 2020-2021 school year. The ideal candidate is a positive, energetic, student-centered educator with experience working with students of all levels of accomplishment.


The Director of Music will be responsible for leading all Music programs, including the direction of choral and instrumental ensembles, and will instruct Music courses for students in grades 4-12. This individual will coordinate associated faculty, curriculum, and events as well as promote the Music program as it fits into the school mission. Ensembles will have scheduled performances developed in coordination with school leadership. The ideal candidate will connect well with students in each age group. Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st century learning within the classroom and knowledge with STEAM learning experiences for students. All teachers are expected to be involved in the life of the school and participate in school events.



Requirements:


The ideal candidate will be able to teach Middle and Upper School music skills, including reading music, choral singing, and playing instruments typically included in performance ensembles. In addition, the candidate should be able to effectively direct musical performances, foster creative thinking, engage students in classroom discussions, and promote active, student-centered learning.


The ideal candidate should possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Music Education. Candidates should have 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience and be an excellent communicator and collaborator. Candidates must also have basic piano skills; advanced ability preferred, and possess the ability to adapt musical arrangements to fit instrumentation


Candidates must have the capacity to deliver instruction both in-person and on a remote learning platform as needed. Previous teaching in an independent school setting is desired.
