Primary Purpose of Department:

The primary purpose of Audiovisual Integration and Support for Learning Environments (AISLE) at UNC Charlotte is to design, maintain, and support effective and accessible learning environments for faculty, students, and staff. Create and maintain formal, informal, physical, and digital learning spaces that support effective and accessible teaching, learning, and research. Facilitate inclusive learning space maintenance and design practices focused on improving learning space effectiveness and end-user experiences. The AISLE group is part of The Teaching and Learning Connection (TLC)—a unit within the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. The unit works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success, and faculty effectiveness in teaching.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The AV Systems Programmer will be required to create custom control system programming and to develop documentation for all AV installation projects at UNC Charlotte. This position will also be responsible for the design, monitoring, and commissioning of complex AV systems. May also monitor and respond to tier 3 (advanced troubleshooting) calls to the Classroom Support Call Center. Responsible for working with faculty and staff in the performance of duties as a representative of the AISLE group which will require strong customer service skills. Position may occasionally serve as a project manager during peak operations periods.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

This position will create, test and deploy AV control systems programs for Classroom Support Projects. Develop GUI design interfaces and is solely responsible for all room control system programs and providing technical expertise for the touch panel reporting component of the Classroom Conditions Assessment Program. Utilize the departmental project management software tools to provide updates, track project progress, and indicate completion of all assigned tasks. Configure, update and maintain the Crestron Fusion database which is utilized to monitor and report on classroom AV equipment. Analyzes and assesses customer needs to develop effective and appropriate audiovisual control and switching solutions. Create functional system design drawings using standard AV drawing software tools. Assist with project closeout tasks including advanced AV systems troubleshooting, debugging and commissioning to ensure proper system operation. Conduct technician and end user training as needed. This position also works with staff to troubleshoot and resolve any and all control programming issues in smart classrooms. Provides technical support and expertise to student personnel to develop basic programming troubleshooting and deployment. Act as support expert for all control programming projects delegated to outside contractors. Identifies trends and makes suggestions for technical modifications to solve existing and future problems. Contributes to decisions based on weighing options and consequences. Demonstrates knowledge of other work specialties and integrates this knowledge to develop and communicate solutions. Develops and/or implements information technology solutions to enhance organizational success.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and two years in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and two years experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role. Related information technology experience may be substituted year-for-year for the required education.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of experience with AV control systems programming (Ex. Crestron, Extron, AMX, etc.)

Necessary Certifications/Licenses:

AVIXA CTS Certification

Preferred Certifications/Licenses:

Advanced courses in Crestron Programming, Biamp Tesira Forte, Extron GCP, QSYS, AMX, AVIXA Certifications: CTS-I or CTS-D preferred. Experience with AV drawing tools (StarDraw, AutoCAD)
