General Summary

The Properties Technician is responsible for Wonsook Kim School of Art equipment installation, maintenance, and inventory. This position is also responsible for purchasing of materials and supplies for the studios and classrooms; assists in organizing, cleaning, and maintaining studios; and helping maintain safe studio practices.

This position is subject to summer academic break layoff.

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. Any combination totaling two years (24 months) from the following categories:
(a) work experience requiring the use of hand and power tools
(b) vocational training in any area/field of study requiring the use of hand and power tools
(c) college training in any area/field of study requiring the use of hand and power tools as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals 12 months
- 60 semester hours equals 24 months

Amounts of the various types of experience or training less than those defined above as being equivalent to 1.0 unit should be converted to decimal equivalents and added together when computing combinations of the different types of preparation listed above.

3. Valid U.S. driver’s license

A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Desired Qualifications

1. Knowledge of safety factors necessary to the operation of tools and equipment associated with a wood shop and art studios.

2. Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of user groups from experienced to novice so that they are trained properly.

3. Fundamental understanding of equipment associated with a wood shop installation and repair.

4. Ability to sustain a preventative maintenance schedule and two comprehensive condition reports per year for tools and machines.

5. Ability to make, track, and communicate purchases from various local and online vendors.

6. Demonstrated communications skills which positively advance interaction with peers, vendors, and user groups to create a cooperative environment.

7. Knowledge of general health and safety issues associated with the creation of projects in studio and shop settings.

8. Experience with CNC routers.

9. Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and printers. Competent use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook or similar programs and web software.

10. Ability to easily adapt to changing work assignments and effectively prioritize tasks.

11. Ability to assess, independently problem solve, and continually work to improve studios and equipment.

12. Self-motivated and takes pride in work.

Work Hours

8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting (up to 50 pounds).

2. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.

3. Ability to conduct or attend meetings in various locations across campus and off campus.

4. Ability to drive a truck that is used to pick up supplies on a weeklybasis.

5. Required to have visual acuity to make general observations about facilities or structures.

$15.43-$17.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
