Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice/Sociology
The Department of Sociology at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August 2021 pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates with a strong passion for teaching with the interest and ability to teach the general range of undergraduate criminal justice and criminology courses to support our growing criminal justice major. There also will be opportunities to develop specialty courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise. Practical experience in a criminal justice related field will be viewed favorably. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology or Criminal Justice, or ABDs close to the completion of their degree.
Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly and/or creative activities, and working closely with students in a small college environment. Committee service and academic advising also are requirements for tenure and promotion.
