Occ Summary

Level ICoordinate all phases of nutrition car e including nutritionassessment, care planning, monitoring, education an d counseling ofhospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of set tings. Performduties in support ofand in compliance with performance im provementplans, JCAHO, and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatorya gencies.Level II Function in a supervisory role as a teamleader in addit ionto the duties and responsibilities of Level I.


Work Perfo rmed

Level I *Provide nutrition services and medical nutritionthe rapy integrated with the patient's medical goals. *Evaluate,interpret,mo nitor and document the nutritional status and nutritionalneeds of hospit alized patients and out patients using establishedstandards of care andp ractice guidelines. *Identify and provideage-specific nutrition counseli ng to meet the cultural needs of thepatients and their families. *Develo p, review, update and implementeducational materials to meet the needsof patients and professionals.*Write order for diet, supplement, enteral/p arenteral nutrition andlaboratory data per hospital policy. *Functionas an integral member ofthe clinical interdisciplinary team. *Maintainregis tered dietitian(RD) status including continuing professional education p er theProfessional Development Portfolio. *Precept dietetic internsandpr ovide on the job training for newly hired clinical staff. *Supervisedail y work of dietetic technicians, registered; provide input intoevaluation but doesn'tdirectly evaluate their performance. *Complywith Nutrition S ervices meeting and attendance standards.LevelII *Perform all theduties and responsibilities of Level I.*Complete monthly performance improvemen t reports. *Assist thedepartment director in reviewing and updating depa rtment policies andprocedures *Plan and coordinate the work schedule and daily work loadof the clinical dietitians and dietetic interns*Other du ties assignedby the department director

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Level I Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major. Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian. Level II Same as Level I


Experience

Level I LevelII One year in an acute care environment preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions. Two years in an acute care environment with one year supervisory experience preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level I Level II Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the understanding that registration will be achieved within 90days of hire. Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition; proviso for license-eligible dietitians as above Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Or equivalent combination of experience and education
