Executive Director of Intercultural & Global Office (IGO)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director of Intercultural and Global Office provides ongoing leadership and support for students, faculty and staff in the following areas:

· Facilitate curricular/co-curricular diversity and belonging programing for IWU-Marion.

· Lead the development of a culturally responsive learning community.

· Provide support for underrepresented populations including those of color, of international origin, and of third-cultures.

· Coordinate international education experiences and related co-curricular programs

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The Executive Director of Intercultural and Global Office reports to the Chancellor, IWU-Marion and is a member of the IWU-Marion Cabinet.The Executive Director also has dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion.The Executive Director leads appropriate councils and task forces for diversity, belonging and global education on the Marion campus and works collaboratively through appropriate academic channels for all curricular initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Promote diversity, equity, justice, and belonging on the IWU-Marion campus to become a more culturally responsive intercultural learning community.

· Develop co-curricular intercultural programming events on campus that raise awareness of global issues from a biblically grounded and theologically sound perspective, and connect students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds in an effort to encourage dialogue, increase understanding, and result in reconciliation.

· Work with faculty and staff to broaden and deepen approaches to belonging and global learning in the curriculum through policy, pedagogy and praxis development.

· Inform, inspire, and invite learning opportunities and effect policy that promotes culturally responsive pedagogy and praxis, resulting in reconciliation (with God and with others) and transformational learning and living outcomes.

· Provide oversight partnership with John Wesley Honors College for Luther Lee Scholars.

· Advocate/ally for students from diverse cultural backgrounds on matters related to their academic success and social development and belonging. Advocate/Ally for Faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds on matters related social development and belonging.

· Consult individually and through workshops/seminars with students, student-led groups/organizations, faculty, staff and university offices on matters related to cultural awareness and responsiveness.

· Supervise professional staff, student workers and volunteers who serve on campus.

· Assist with training faculty and staff on how to utilize the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES) online assessment, and debrief students who have taken the IES.

· Stay up to date on current research and trends related to intercultural learning and global engagement (attend conferences, maintain memberships, review books, articles, and journals, etc.). Maintain intellectual vitality by way of scholarly output and professional presentations at conferences and in other venues.

· Nurture high quality domestic and international intercultural academic programs, partnerships, and services that advance the University’s mission and global vision. Guide faculty and staff in the academic support offices, centers, and institutes engaged in international and domestic multicultural education.

· Steward budgets, facilities, and resources in ways that advance IWU’s mission and its intercultural and global vision.

· Travel nationally and internationally to cultivate strategic partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders, partners, and constituencies, in accordance with the responsibilities of the position and the life of an emerging global Christian university.

· Collaborate with enrollment management to shape domestic and international multicultural student recruitment and retention efforts.

· Serve as a Designated School Official and maintain compliance with US immigration law; and maintain federal and state compliance, professional standards of best practice, policies, and procedures related to global education. Citizenship or permanent residency required for DSO responsibilities.

· Serve as an administrative faculty member with teaching privileges on an as-needed basis.

· Serve on University councils and committees as designated.

· Fulfill all other duties as assigned by the IWU – Marion Chancellor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Hires, and oversees and evaluates work, of both staff and student employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

According to Indiana Wesleyan University’s employment policy, all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

· Master’s degree or significant experience required in related fields of intercultural competency, international education, and other issues related to diversity, equity and belonging in higher education.PhD or terminal degree in relevant field preferred.

Experience

· Must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple administrative tasks effectively and efficiently, and able to delegate responsibilities to others.

· Minimum of 2 years living and working outside the United States desired.

· Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the field of higher education both in teaching and administration.

· Minimum of 5years of experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Able to cultivate intercultural relationships with internal and external stakeholders as a public representative of the University.

· Demonstrates ability to lead collaboratively and courageously, with strategic vision, and humble servanthood.

· Excellent verbal, written communication; strong interpersonal, hospitable, people skills.

· Well organized and able to effectively manage multiple tasks at one time.

· Experienced working with collegians and/or in a university culture.

· Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and data management skills.

· Works well as a part of a team and values collaboration and consensus.

· Maintains a strong work ethic and is able to set and accomplish personal and professional goals.
