Department Description:

The UNC Neuroscience Center is an inter-departmental research center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Our mission is to promote various and extensive neuroscience research with a specific emphasis on developmental, cellular, and disease-related processes.

Position Description:

This position independently performs a full range of technical accounting work which includes responsibility for maintaining accounting records of considerable complexity. Accounts include state appropriations, overhead receipts, contracts, subcontracts, grants, trust funds and endowment funds. The position has delegated responsibility to analyze data for accuracy, problem-solve, and interpret regulations. Positions works closely with department’s business manager to analyze spending patterns and needs including making financial suggestions to enhance researcher’s portfolios. Additionally, the position ensures all vendors are paid in a timely manner. The Neuroscience Center maintains one recharge center with another to start in 2021 and this position oversees the monthly invoicing and collections for services provided.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

This position is one of five full time positions that make up the Center’s administration. As such, it is essential that staff members operate with substantial independence. The candidate for this position must have the ability to manage a variety of tasks while meeting set deadlines. This position regularly interacts with faculty, staff, students and external vendors so the successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with a focus on excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with university systems, especially Connect Carolina and Infoporte are preferred.

Special Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing less than 20 lbs.
