Department Description:

The primary purpose of the perinatal research unit in the Center for Women’s Health Research is to complete various research studies. Research studies may originate from industry or federal funds and may encompass a variety of funded and/or unfunded principal investigators. The perinatal research unit will implement and carry out research projects in the hospitals and outlying clinics, including UNC, Rex and Wake County Health Department and various private doctors’ offices around the area.

Position Description:


The Social/Clinical Research Assistant is part of a group of research staff recruiting for various industry and government funded projects. Though responsibility is to specific projects, the Social/Clinical Research Assistant will be required to screen and be able to explain other research projects as well as obtain informed consent for them. There is mandatory phone on-call to be shared among the group – the specific time/number of hours is dependent on the number of staff available and the studies requiring on call. The position includes patient recruitment, data collection, specimen collection and processing – must be able to multitask.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have clinical research experience or experience caring for obstetric clients. Must be expert in MS Office; very strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be able to work independently; must be able to analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines and apply those guidelines appropriately, must be skilled in organizing workflow and coordinating multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Phlebotomy experience is preferred or must be willing to learn.
