Job Duties: 

The purpose in the UCCS Food Service Lead 4 is to provide quality food and beverages, maintain supplies, equipment and services, in a sanitary and safe environment to the various retail dining coffee services outlets at UCCS. Position supervises the presentation of food, stocking and service of various foods including salads, desserts, convenience food items, and beverages.

  • Assists management in determining the amounts of product on hand and to be ordered.
  • Ensures that sanitary and HACCP procedures are maintained in assigned areas. Maintain health code compliance including, but not limited to, temperatures, safe food handling procedures and proper sanitary restraints and uniforms.
  • Informs immediate supervisor of equipment’s repair and maintenance needs.
  • Maintains the proper storage of food items in the designated storage areas.
  • May assist and/or gives and assigns breaks in all other areas as assigned.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned
  • Coordinates customer orders for preparation, service and/or delivery in a timely fashion. Operates and maintains the following equipment: coffee and espresso machines, blenders, tea brewers, etc.
  • Operates computerized cash register accurately. Processes sales transactions using appropriate procedures for cash, checks, credit cards and meal plan cards and is able to train student employees in cashiering practices.
  • Follows and supervises established security procedures for all cash transactions (including initial bank), charge and credit drafts and receipts.
  • Provides visual security to prevent theft. Reports all theft to the manager on duty immediately.
  • Tabulates daily cash, credit card and meal transactions.
  • Coordinates work assignments of food service workers and/or student staff to meet food production and/or presentation deadlines. Provides efficient and creative use of all foods including leftovers.
  • Coordinates and /or sets up all service areas including, but not limited to, beverage (including specialty coffee mixers), salad bar/counter, deli, pizza, entry/exit ways, takeout, bakery, short order, specialty bars and/or dessert areas with equipment and supplies.
  • Primary work schedule during the academic year: Monday-Friday, 630am – 300pm. Summer hours will vary as will location and job duties.

    Will be expected to work various shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays to cover special events, sick calls, etc.

    Job Competencies:

    Ability to comprehend, carry out and explain complex verbal and written instructions.Ability to bend, stoop, twist and lift up to 60 pounds when storing, stocking and gathering prepared products and/or inventory items.Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for extended hours.Requires the safe and efficient use of food service equipment such as ovens, grills, food choppers and processors, steamers, slicers, etc., as well as understanding the proper way to clean food service equipment.Ability to provide functional supervision and/or training of food service workers and student employees as assigned.Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of food preparation and presentation.Friendly disposition with effective customer relations skills with ability to work with a varied clientele is imperative.Ability to train and coordinate the work of others.Must be able to communicate effectively.This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Hourly Pay Range: Generally Starting at $12.57 - $16.76 

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    This position is dependent on the availability of auxiliary revenues funding.

    Minimum Requirements

    At least 2 years experience in food preparation and service environment with at least one year in a supervisory capacity. 

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move.  Employee is occasionally required to have moderate bending, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, moderate energy requirements, tasting/smelling, depth perception, color vision and good field of vision. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
